I’ve recently heard from a friend that she bought a set of 6 orange fiberglass bar stools and me being interested in bar stools in general, I got really curious about them. I mean bar stools of fiberglass? I knew about wood, about metal and about a combination of the two, even about the cheap plastic, but fiberglass was quite new to me. So I visited her place to check them out.

Basically fiberglass is an extremely strong material that at the same time is quite light. Its most common uses is for boats and on shower doors. Basically fiberglass gives every stool a nice futuristic style, even though the first such stools became very popular in the 50s. You can still find original stools from those times, but even if you buy new ones, the quality is just the same, which means very good. Not forgetting that they also look quite the same as the original version.

I’m sure you’ve seen these stools before but you didn’t know their name or the material. They have a scoop seat that basically rises into a low back and then it falls into a light taper joining with a chrome base. It has a chrome footrest and a swivel mechanism. These are quite unique chairs that you will remember if you see them once. No wonder they are so popular with the guests of my friend.

Besides the traditional colors, such as silver, black and red, it’s very easy to find the fiberglass bar stools in many colors, so you will definitely find some that fully matches the decor of your room. Also in terms of shapes you will find some interesting ones. For example the stool set from my friend has a shape of a bottle cap, which is actually quite unusual. But if you look long enough, you can find them.

These fiberglass bar stools are very easy to maintain and clean, all you need to use is some mild soap or detergent in water, alternatively just like with the chrome bar stools, you can use undiluted vinegar to remove all dirt from them. To clean the chrome base, which is a bit more difficult to reach, you can use a polisher or an older toothbruth that will do the job.
